Becoming a counsellor proved to be an incredible journey and when I think about beginning that journey I never realised what a roller coaster ride it would be. I met some wonderful people who will have a place in my heart forever and shared some amazing experiences which have certainly helped prepare me as I embarked upon my own counselling career.
Its a dream come true to be working as a private practitioner and having my own counselling studio which is set in a wonderful location. I am passionate about counselling and it gives me great pleasure to be able to offer personal therapy for students on their counselling journey, whereby I feel my enthusiasm for the profession shines through enabling them to see for themselves that all the hard work does pay off.
orking in private practice also gave me the opportunity to deliver my own loss and bereavement training programme to unit welfare officers on the British Army Unit Welfare Officers course which was an amazing opportunity for me particularly as both bereavement and military life are areas of special interest to me.
My core model is person centred which sits really well with me however to enhance the therapeutic benefit of the sessions I also work in a more eclectic way with student counsellors.
If you are looking at this page because you are a student in counselling training, I envy you because hand on my heart I would do it all over again. It can be a bit of a juggle to say the least and I remember feeling like I was cramming so much into my life, course work, assignments, presentations, placements and of course personal therapy, but hang in there because you can do this you just have to work hard and want it enough.
It is best to start your personal therapy as soon as possible to ensure you have enough time to get all the required sessions completed in time.
